9 Oct Films
I am going to try to answer the questions posed in the Introduction and the first presentation of Week 4. The first question is in some ways similar to the question in thr Week 4 Forum. A popular representation of a photographer is that h is male, in his thirty, only interested in pretty girls with or without clothes and taking photographs as e wants without planning or the need for post-production editing.
My favourite film about a photographer who is The Bridges of Madison County. The photographer is doing a National Geographic shoot in Iowa when he gets lost and find himself on a farm. On the farm is the wife whose husband and children have gone to a fair and will be away for a few days. Despite the photographers and wife efforts they get romantically involved. After four days when her family the photographer has gone and she continues as if nothings happened. It is only after her funeral that the children find journals detailing the affair.
This,of course, fits with the popular representation above. This is played very cleverly as the director want the viewer to see that was not thr photographers intention.
